Flying In for a Friend's Birthday? Here Is What the Guest Owes the Plan
Your flight lands at LaGuardia at nine forty and the table is booked for later that night. You are not the organizer, so your job is small. It is also the job most out-of-town guests get wrong, because a guest who drifts costs the person planning more than a guest who simply says no.
Your yes is a headcount
Answer quickly and answer honestly. Your reply goes straight into a number, and that number decides what your friend reserves and when. Birthday guest list politics is what they are dealing with on the other end of the chat.
If you have to change your answer, change it early. A no three weeks out is fine. A no on the day is a hole in somebody's night.
Book the trip around 11 PM, not around dinner
Starlets is open daily 11 PM to 4 AM, so the night starts when a normal evening is winding down. That is the shape of a birthday at a gentlemen's club in Queens, and it is not the shape of a dinner booking. An out-of-town guest who books a seven o'clock flight home the next morning has effectively declined the invitation.
Land early enough to sleep. Eat something at a sensible hour. Then treat 11 PM as the beginning rather than the end.

Nobody can carry your ID for you
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. Starlets is 21 and over, the check happens for every person, and the group's reservation does not cover you. That part is not negotiable for anybody, guest or organizer.
If your licence expires this month, deal with it before you fly. Do not be the discovery the group makes at 49-09 25th Ave at midnight.
Getting there is your problem
Woodside sits in Queens near LaGuardia, which is the good news, and the rest of the route is yours to work out. Getting from the airport into Queens walks it, and landing at LGA late and still going out covers the tight version.
Do not make your arrival a group project. The person planning already has a table to hold and a chat to run.
Where you sleep matters more than you think
Book somewhere you can get back to at four in the morning without thinking about it. That is an easy decision to make now and a miserable one to make at closing time with nine other people waiting on you.
Do not renegotiate when you land
You flew in. That does not make you the planner.
The instinct is to arrive with improvements. A different night, an extra stop first, a friend who lives here now and should obviously come. Send those before anyone books anything, or do not send them. Once a date is set and a table is reserved, your better idea costs your friend more than it is worth.
Pay your part before you are asked
Whatever the group agreed, do it without being chased. The person organizing has already spent a week of evenings on this, and chasing money afterwards is the specific thing that makes people stop organizing anything.
If you did not understand the arrangement, ask in the chat before you fly. Not at the table, and not at the end of the night.
Be at the table for the cake
There is one scheduled moment in the whole evening. The booth gives the birthday a shout-out and the Startenders bring the cake out onto the floor, and the table turns into a party in about four seconds.
Be there when it happens. The friend who is outside taking a call during it will hear about that for years, and fairly.
Being the guest who is easy to have around
The good out-of-town guest is not complicated. Show up when you said. Know one or two things about the people you have not met. Keep your bag off the seat somebody needs.
Ask the person planning what they still need doing, once, early in the night. Then take the answer and actually do it instead of offering again later.
Leave when the group leaves
The night runs to 4 AM and the ending is a group decision. Do not vanish, and do not extend it on your own in a neighborhood you do not know.
Say goodnight at the table, then go. A guest who disappears at closing turns into a problem three people have to solve by phone.
The part you can do today
Check the expiry date on your ID this afternoon, not at the airport. Move your share of the money somewhere you will not spend it. Put the address in your phone now, while you have signal and patience.
Starlets is at 49-09 25th Ave, Woodside, NY 11377, open daily 11 PM to 4 AM. If it turns out you are the one booking after all, the setups are on the service list and you can start a VIP booking. The number is (646) 301-6606 if you would rather hear it from a person.
