Treat every walk back to the door as a brand new arrival. That is the safe assumption, and it is the one that never leaves you stranded outside at 1 AM explaining that you were just inside.

There is no re-entry rule published for Starlets. Not on the site, not in the listings, nowhere you could point to. So anybody who tells you confidently how re-entry works at this venue is guessing, and guessing about the one thing you would rather not be wrong about.

Ask before you step out, not after

The reliable answer lives with the club, and it costs one question to get. Ask the person at the door before you walk out, while you are still on the right side of the question. Or call Starlets at (646) 301-6606 earlier in the day and settle it before the night starts.

Ten seconds of asking. That is the entire cost.

The mistake is stepping outside first and asking second, which turns a simple question into a negotiation you are on the wrong end of.

The one part that does not change

Whatever the answer is on a given night, this much is fixed. Coming back in means the ID check again, because it runs for every person every time. Being on a table, having a stamp on your hand, and having been inside forty minutes ago are all beside the point.

So the ID stays on you. Not in the jacket at the table. Not in a friend's bag. On you, in a pocket, the way it was when you first walked up.

Why people step outside in the first place

Almost always one of four reasons, and three of them have better answers inside.

• A phone call. It can usually wait, and if it cannot, the doorway of the building is not the only quiet spot in Woodside.
• Food. Starlets runs a full kitchen, so hunger is a thing you can solve without leaving.
• Air. Fair enough, and worth asking about first.
• The ride home. This is the real one, and it deserves planning rather than improvising.

Sort the ride before you go in. Late-night car math in Queens moves fast, and the person who steps out to sort it at 3 AM is the person who ends up making decisions for everyone.

Build a night that never needs re-entry

Starlets is open daily 11 PM to 4 AM, which is a long enough stretch that you do not need to break it into two halves. Treat the door as a one-way turnstile in your own planning and most of the problem disappears.

That means arriving together rather than in waves. It means everybody having their own ID rather than a designated wallet-carrier. It means eating and settling the ride while you are still capable of caring about either.

Arriving in two waves is the same problem

Half the group at eleven and the other half at midnight is a version of this that nobody recognizes as one. Every wave is its own arrival, with its own IDs and its own conversation at the door.

The people already inside cannot vouch anyone through. A table under your name does not reach out through the door and collect stragglers.

Arrive together where you can. Where you cannot, make sure the late half knows exactly what to bring.

Leaving early without wrecking it for everyone

Somebody usually goes first. That is normal on a night running to 4 AM, and it lands better when it was planned rather than announced at 2 AM in a room nobody can hear you in.

Say goodbye at the table instead of vanishing, so no one spends twenty minutes hunting for you. Sort your own ride. And if there is any chance you are coming back, ask on the way out rather than assuming.

If you do step out

Tell your group before you go, so nobody is looking for you. Tell whoever is looking after your table, so your seats are not a mystery. Take your own ID and your own phone.

Then come back promptly. A group that fragments outside for half an hour tends to lose the thread of its own night, and the room does not pause for you.
