Planning the Content Side of a Birthday or Bachelorette Night
Someone in the group has already made a hashtag and the night is still three weeks out. Before that goes any further, call the club and ask what is allowed on the floor. That answer, not your shot list, decides what the content side of the evening actually looks like.
The venue decides, not the group chat
Starlets is the authority on what happens inside its own room. Call (646) 301-6606 and ask before you build any part of the plan around filming. Do not go on what a friend did at a different club, and do not go on something you saw online.
Ask specifically. "Can we take photos at our table" and "can we film" are two different questions, and they may have two different answers.
Whatever you are told, that is the rule for the night. Take it as given and plan inside it.
Your own group needs a policy too
Even when the venue says yes, your party still has to agree among itself. Somebody in every group does not want to be posted. A job, a family situation, a custody arrangement, or no reason they owe anyone.
Ask before the night rather than after. Send one message: is anyone out of frame tonight? Take the answer at face value and do not ask why.

One camera, not eleven
Give the job to one person and let everyone else put the phone away. Eleven people filming the same thirty seconds produces eleven mediocre versions and nobody who was actually present for it.
Rotate the job across the night if you want. Just make sure one person has it and the other ten do not.
The cake is the shot
There is one real beat in a birthday here. The booth gives the shout-out, the Startenders bring the cake out onto the floor, and the whole table turns toward it at once. If you capture one thing all night, capture that.
Decide in advance who is holding the phone for it. Then put them somewhere that is not in the path of people carrying a cake across a busy floor.
Everything else is filler by comparison. Let the rest of the night just be the night.
Other people's evening is not your content
Everyone else in the room came out for their own reasons and did not agree to appear in your feed. Point the camera at your own table and keep it there.
This is ordinary manners, and it is also where a content plan starts to become a problem for your group. The wider version of that line is behaviors that get you turned away.
If the content is the whole point, book differently
Some nights are a shoot with a party attached. Brand activations, video shoots, private parties and after-parties are what the Custom Event Buyout is for, and it covers full or partial use of the venue with staffing, lighting, security and entertainment arranged around what you are doing.
Buyouts are quoted rather than listed, so that conversation starts earlier than a table reservation does. Begin it on the service list or through VIP booking, and say plainly what you intend to shoot.
Being vague here helps nobody. A venue that knows what you are planning can actually set the room up for it.
Confirm it again when you arrive
You asked on the phone three weeks ago. Ask the host again. One sentence at the table means nobody in your group spends the night guessing, and the answer you get standing there is the one that counts.
Do it before the first photo. A question asked early is easy. The same question after somebody has been filming for an hour is a different conversation entirely.
Post afterwards, not during
Live-posting from the table tells a lot of people exactly where your whole group is standing, at one in the morning. The photos are just as good in the daylight.
It also keeps people at the table. Nobody is chasing signal in a corner while the guest of honor is holding court without them.
Everyone gets one delete
Before anything goes up, the group gets a look and any person can pull one item without explaining themselves. The guest of honor gets two.
Agree that rule in the chat beforehand. It quietly prevents almost every argument that otherwise happens the next afternoon.
Write the three lines before you go
Send the group three sentences the day before: what the venue said, who is filming, and who is out of frame. That covers the content plan, and it fits in one message.
Starlets is at 49-09 25th Ave, Woodside, Queens, open daily 11 PM to 4 AM. If you are still assembling the group, birthday guest list politics and bachelorette guest list drama are the two arguments worth having before this one.
